University Honors collaborates with the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership to offer Social Media Assessment

Since 2021, the University Honors Program has worked with the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership (DCNP) to offer the Social Media Assessment experience to University Honors students. During the spring 2024 semester, eighteen Honors students completed the experience and reviewed Facebook pages for ten different DeKalb County nonprofit organizations.

For this experience, students receive training from the NIU Division of Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications on the specifics of nonprofit organization social media practices and get tips on helpful recommendations. Students were matched with a DeKalb County nonprofit organization and were tasked with reviewing their Facebook page. Students then provided their assessment directly to the organization.

This civic engagement experience offers University Honors students the opportunity to learn more about local organizations and engage with the DeKalb County nonprofit community. The Honors Program also collaborates with the DCNP to offer the Website Review experience, being offered during the fall 2024 semester, where students can review the website of a DeKalb County nonprofit organization.

We are grateful for the collaboration with the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership, and we look forward to continuing to offer the Social Media Assessment and Website Review experiences to Honors students.
