Fall 2022 Outstanding Capstone Mentor Award, Dr. Pi-Sui Hsu

In recognition of the incredible work done by our NIU faculty who serve as mentors to Honors students completing senior capstone projects, nominations are solicited from students for an Outstanding Faculty Mentor award. The fall 2022 Outstanding Faculty Mentor was awarded to Dr. Pi-Sui Hsu, Associate Professor, Department of Educational Technology, Research and Assessment.Dr. Hsu worked with Cassandra Sendra on her project “Dual-Country Middle School Science Air Quality Curriculum Guide.”

Cassandra wrote a wonderful letter nominating Dr. Hsu. In her letter Cassandra stated that Dr. Hsu, “is always willing to collect, share and incorporate other individual’s ideas into developing the after-school program and my unit curriculum. This has helped focus and refine my project to ensure that I am hitting not only my performance expectation for the science unit I am completing but to expand and engage the students further. This has allowed me to gain ideas from a master’s degree engineering student, an Engineering Professor and veteran teachers. While I am ending my educational degree and have taken all my professional courses, this help has ensured that I am better informed about the particle sensor that I am proposing my students will be using as well as the engineering, design and scientific practices that the students will be learning throughout this unit.”

“Overall Dr. Hsu is an amazing mentor and works hard at every task that is put in front of her. She is supportive, collaborative and helpful to all the students that she works with inside and outside of a classroom environment. There is no better mentor in my opinion than Dr. Hsu, and she deserves this recognition.”

Congratulations Dr. Hsu!
