In spring 2026, the University Honors Program partnered with the Alumni Association again to offer honors students the opportunity to test drive a career and experience a day in a professional’s life. Seventeen students participated in this rewarding experience. Thirteen alumni volunteers represented diverse occupations, from research scientist to engagement specialist, advanced development manager and supply chain director. The students overwhelmingly reported positive experiences, with 100% of participants recommending the Honors Job Shadow Program to their honors peers.
Read on to hear what student participants found to be the most rewarding part of their experiences.
Leila Moore shared, “the most rewarding part of the experience was seeing how the individual subjects I’ve been studying—like marketing, finance, and management; actually weave together in a high-stakes, professional environment.” Leila was matched with Bruce Graska who works as a Customer Experience Operations Manager.
Aneeka Matadar said, “in the job shadow experience, I learned about the recruiting process, what makes an employee stand out to get rejected, how to make a tailored resume to my desired job, and how my major, psychology, can play a big role in recruiting and screening process.” Aneeka was matched with Sam Swafford, a Talent Acquisition Specialist.
Solaya Sirivong stated, “overall, the visit was very insightful, and I learned more about how the company works with clients, how business changes throughout different seasons, and how to network and operate in a corporate professional setting.” Solaya was matched with Kyah King, who works as an Assurance Manager and Senior HR Consultant.
We are grateful to all the alumni who served as mentors and provided helpful insight.
