Honors Senior Spotlight: J. C. La Barbera

J. C. La Barbera is a senior Honors student graduating this May with a degree in Mechatronics Engineering and minors in Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. J. C. shared future plans, favorite Honors Program memories, and advice for incoming Honors students. Read below to hear about J. C.’s Honors journey.

  1. What are your future plans?

“I’ll be pursuing my MS in Mechanical Engineering at NIU.”

2. What is your favorite Honors Program memory?

“Definitely my first Taft Retreat in 2022. It’s where I met some of my best friends (shoutout Eddie, Becca, and Alex).”

3. How did being part of the Honors Program help you during your time here at NIU?

“University Honors has given me opportunities to grow as an engineer and a researcher, and has given me an absolutely incredible community of students who really care for what they do.”

4. What piece of advice to you have to new students starting in the Honors Program?

“Go to the involvement fair and join a club. It can be any group, whatever level of commitment you want, but being involved on-campus is the number-one indicator of student success, in my experience.”
