University Honors Recognizes Outstanding Capstone Mentors

The University Honors Program is proud to recognize the 2023-2024 Outstanding Capstone Mentors.

To graduate with Full University Honors, students must complete a capstone project supervised by a faculty mentor. After working with their mentors throughout the semester, or sometimes longer, students may nominate their faculty mentors for this award considering the following criteria:

    • Someone who fosters an inclusive environment and supports a sense of belonging to the academic community.
    • Someone who employs strategies to build mentee’s confidence, establishes trust and fosters independence.

The Spring 2024 Outstanding Capstone Mentor is Reva Freedman, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science. Minhaz Patel nominated Dr. Freedman for her support in his research project, “Teaching Computer Architecture and System Organization with a Minigame-based Intelligent Tutoring System”.

The Fall 2023 Outstanding Capstone Mentor is Brian McCormick, associate professor in the Department of Management. Abigail Hostman nominated Dr. McCormick for his mentorship and support on her research project, “Exploring the Job Market Before and After COVID-19”, which also won an Outstanding Capstone Award at the Fall 2023 Honors Day ceremony.
